Is your back aching yet? As we wield our shovels, winter has descended with a sudden unbelievable pile of snow!

A friend told me about his next door neighbour whose family has just arrived from China, their daughter being enthralled with the snow and the parents not as thrilled. My friend explained what a “toboggan” is and that generated considerable interest. I talked to a young girl who arrived last month from India and she likes the cold weather because it was too hot where she lived. So…there we go. It’s winter and we’ll learn once again to appreciate what it has to offer. On these wintery days, try one of the soups from our recipe index!

Having recently visited Calgary and another of their many Christmas markets, I would recommend two not to miss: Millarville and Spruce Meadows. Each is well worth a visit but will take several hours to do justice to the many wonderful vendors. If you’re lucky, you might spot a reindeer resting up for this month’s big trip.

Some of us were stranded and unable to attend the November Luncheon. Thank you to those who braved the elements and enjoyed the turkey dinner. Don’t forget the Christmas Social coming up on Wednesday, December 4, 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Masonic Hall. There will be games, prizes, and food! There is no charge but we will welcome donations for the Salvation Army food baskets.

If you are looking for something to do over Christmas, a lot is happening in Moose Jaw. Don’t know where to look? Check out the latest weekly papers. You can find information on everything from The Warriors Teddy Bear Toss at the Dec. 6 game, the Christmas Carol Festival on Monday, Dec. 9, and Tuesday, Dec.10 at Zion Church, plus the Annual Twinkle Tours by Tourism Moose Jaw.

You can drive independently (the first unofficial map is already published) or take one of the trolley tours. They run on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from November 29 until Sunday, Dec. 22. Check out TourismMooseJaw.com for times and prices, or call 306-693-8097.
