Spring has arrived. We think. The rain is welcome but the snow and sleet is not. Many of you will be inspecting your grass or mowing or examining perennials popping up. Reassure those little plants that heat is coming.

I saw an interesting sign the other day: To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. Very true.

In mid-April, I was fortunate to join my sister for a trip to the Hill Country in Texas to see the bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas, which bloom only mid to late April. Fields of blue flowers could be seen everywhere! A most peaceful afternoon was spent at the Lady Bird Wildflower Gardens where we saw flower after flower. To avoid a hot, humid day, our answer was to visit the Natural Bridge Caverns near San Antonio. If you are ever in San Antonio, the River Walk is ablaze with colour and plants and trees and wonderful food. What a boost of energy that created for getting into the flower beds at home--until I arrived home to a blizzard.

A book I read on the trip home and would highly recommend is Bonnie Garmus' Lessons in Chemistry. It is thoughtful, humorous. and inspiring, and a good read while waiting for the weather to behave.

The STS AGM takes place in Saskatoon May 7-9. Delegates Representing our Moose Jaw Chapter are: Sonja Susut, Sandi Hutchinson, Elaine Parsons, Al Thiessen, Dianne Newman, Arlene Wuschke, Cheryl Wingert, Willis Wingert, and Sunil Pandila - STS Executive. Both Sonja and Sunil are running for positions on the Provincial STS Executive.

Remembering My Life Mom and Son/Daughter

This is a fun activity and conversation piece.  Questions to answer by mom, as well as adult children. You can each have your own sheet of questions to think about.  It’s interesting what you remember!  It brought us some forgotten memories, some good  conversations and, of course, lots of laughs.

About Age-Friendly Moose Jaw…

Age-Friendly Moose Jaw is an all-volunteer group determined to help people over 55 stay active and independent as they age in place.

The Age-Friendly Executive will present a brief overview of the Age-Friendly Committee including history, structure and past/ current projects. We will touch on current thinking and direction regarding agism and give an overview of our current initiative "Social Prescribing"

The three presenters are: Rom Jukes, Carolyn Graham and Christine Boyczuk.

Metal Art Sculptures by W. C. Keen

Bill’s metal art is a form of sculpture made from steel. Steel is the main medium used and it is welded, forged and bent into original designs. This method assures that no two pieces will ever be the same so all pieces are original.

Bill’s co-worker Laurette, an artist in her own right, paints the pieces which gives them a more interesting and realistic appearance.

The sculptures vary from realism to abstract and are wall hanging or three dimensional in form.

We do a lot of tree designs because most of our work is inspired by our love of nature. Although we do many different types of designs, SCULPTURED TREES have become our trade mark, therefore is the main focus of our work.

W.C. Keen (Bill), a fellow Superannuate and  gifted artist will have his Metal Art Sculptures on display May 3rd - June 28, 2024 @ the Moose Jaw, Cultural Centre, Visual Arts Gallery.

Bill and his wife Laurette are co-designers of the Sculptures. Their creations are inspired by their love of nature. A Reception will be held at the Cultural Centre Gallery on June 8th at 2:00. Click here to see more metal art sculptures.
