Much to our surprise, October has blessed us with an abundance of lovely weather and late frosts. As the month ends, it is remarkable to see streets lined with trees laden with glorious yellowish leaves. And, what about those brilliant sunrises? It's wonderful to see people, particularly seniors, enjoying the walking trails from early morning to sunset.

I trust all of you exercised your right to vote in the provincial election. Regardless of the outcomes, it is crucial that we support our former colleagues in their efforts to address the problems they face in educating our children and youth. We have have superannuated but we are still entrusted with caring for our teachers.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Seniors' Day Expo at the Eatons Centre early in October. The event was a great success and we owe much gratitude to Elaine Parsons and her team of Dianne Newman and Arlene Wuschke who worked to provide an opportunity for the attendees to receive information on every possible service for s seniors in our community. Well done, Elaine!

Welcome Sue Amundrud our STS President

Sue Amundrud will be our guest speaker at our November 20 Luncheon.

Sue was born and raised in southern Ontario and completed her first degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, where she met her prairie-born husband. After moving to Saskatchewan, she completed a B.Ed (AD) at the University of Regina and an M.Ed from the University of Oregon. She spent 10 years as a high school teacher in multiple subject areas (rural Saskatchewan) followed by 3 years as a Superintendent of Education and 17 years with the Ministry of Education.

Following retirement in 2011, she took on contract work with Elections Saskatchewan, as well as volunteering with Plus Industries (group home & sheltered workshop for adults with disabilities) and the local SPCA. She also indulges in reading, quilting and singing with a local choir.

Sue is in her 9th year on the executive of the STS, having served as member-at-large, councillor and vice-president prior to being elected President at the 2024 AGM.

Did you know.….. members (the primary holder) who qualify for the Saskatchewan Seniors’ Drug Plan can get a reduced premium.

You must meet the criteria as follows to qualify. To be eligible for the Saskatchewan Seniors Drug Plan, you must be a Saskatchewan resident with a valid health card. You must also be 65 years of age or older. Your net income must be $75,918 or less on your 2023 income tax to be eligible for the year 2025.
