Welcome to the last (hopefully) month of winter! We can soon trade shovels for brooms as we deal with the melting snowbanks in our yards.

Please continue to check our website for new information about Blue Cross. STS has sent this message: “Blue Cross is undergoing a significant update to their system that will include new member ID cards for all Group Benefit members.” This is very important information because members will soon prepare medical claims for income tax. Also to remember is the Health Spending Account which started January 1, 2025 and will conclude on December 31, 2026.

The provincial STS Annual General Meeting is approaching, in the spring. You may be interested in participating as we often need delegates from the Moose Jaw chapter to accompany Executive members.

Several of you enjoyed the recent Chinese New Year dinner at the Eaton Centre. If you have not already done this, please check out the many worthwhile physical and social activities offered at the Seniors’ Association at Timothy Eaton Gardens.

March is Luncheon month! Join us Wednesday, March 19 at the Masonic Hall at 10:30 a.m. for good food and fellowship. Our speaker will be Susan Amundrud, STS provincial president.

March 19 luncheon: RSVPs now open

The next luncheon is scheduled for March 19, 2025 beginning at 1030am with a coffee chat. The guest speaker will be Sue Amundrud, STS President, and the meal will be a roast beef dinner catered by Charlotte’s.

Sue missed our November luncheon due to extremely poor weather and roads. We are happy she is able to attend our March luncheon!

Following retirement in 2011, she took on contract work with Elections Saskatchewan, as well as volunteering with Plus Industries (group home & sheltered workshop for adults with disabilities) and the local SPCA. She also indulges in reading, quilting and singing with a local choir.

Sue is in her 9th year on the executive of the STS, having served as member-at-large, councillor and vice-president prior to being elected President at the 2024 AGM.

Moose Jaw Band & Choral Festival Trivia with Janie Fries

Janie Fries with the Moose Jaw Band & Choral Festival turns hosting duties around on host Lyle Johnson with a fun round of trivia about the 73rd annual event. In Janie’s words…

While being interviewed by Lyle Johnson last December, focusing on the Moose Jaw Band and Choral Festival, I realized we had a ton of information on the development of the festival that people either had forgotten or never knew of in the first place. I suggested to Lyle that we plan a session focussing on the history but, unbeknownst to him, I would plan a trivia game in which he would be the contestant. I knew that I only needed a few questions, as I could talk forever on each one. I also had to plan my buzzer for when he got the answer wrong, and something more celebratory for a correct answer. For that I raided our old toy closet (which desperately needs a purge). Armed with those three items, we were on a roll. Lyle was able to get a score, albeit quite low. That being said... mea culpa.. a few of them really should have been multiple choice. I've been away from the classroom too long.
