Hello Superannuates and Welcome Spring!

Yes! The beautiful season of Renewal is here! In this newsletter, we have 4 items for your perusal. We’ve included 2 Renewal messages and videos to help you move from Winter blahs to Spring rejuvenation: Body and Mind (Cindy Divine), Enjoying your deck or patio (Marcy Duffey), and lastly the McDowell Foundation Research Survey.

In preparation for Mother’s Day we have added a new feature to our Recipe Corner called Mom’s Favourite Recipes, we would love for you to share your Mother’s favourite recipe, or (your favourite recipe of your moms), you could also include a short write-up and picture. I added my Grandmother Esther’s Lefsa recipe and picture already (it was my grampa's favourite recipe). Check them out with these links:

Cindy Divine – Mind and Body

Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is the practice of linking breath and movement to increase energy flow and create a moving meditation.

Cindy has been a herbalist and natural health practitioner for 27 years. She has always believed that the body, mind, and emotions are closely linked and this led her to learn gentle yoga, and then multiple forms of qigong, including medical, women’s, and Korean practices.

Cindy has taught students of all age ranges and conditions, including children, mentally and physically challenged youth and adults, and the elderly, where students are seated in chairs. All ages and abilities are open to stress reduction and healing through this practice, with the youngest being 4 years old, and the eldest, 96.

Cindy currently teaches Qigong 3 times a week at The Light Studio in Moose Jaw.

Check out this beautiful video of a Qigong practice that is designed for anyone. If you are a beginner with limited or perhaps no experience or perhaps you practice Qigong regularly, this video will help you move your body, move energy within the body, feel younger, taller and get ready for the change of season. Let’s reawaken from winter’s slumber and get energized for Spring!

Marcy Duffey – Enjoying the Deck or Patio

Saskatchewan summers never seem long enough, so if you can create an inviting outdoor space on your deck or patio you will be able to enjoy the season in comfort.

Simple things like a comfy set of chairs and a small table to set that cool drink on is a great start but why not jazz it up a bit.

At Keon Garden Centre we have lovely bistro sets, solar lanterns, hanging pots and even decorative room dividers for a bit of privacy. One of our favourite items we have are our small deck water gardens, available in two sizes, with lights and the soothing sound of bubbling water.

If you prefer to garden a bit, we have a huge selection of pots or hanging baskets and we even have Citronella plants which not only look and smell lovely but will help repel those pesky mosquitos.

Come and visit, we are sure you will find the perfect items for the deck of your dreams.

McDowell Foundation Research Survey

This is a special message from the provincial level of Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan.

Dear STS Member,

I am sending this second letter as a reminder to complete this survey as soon as possible. This survey is meant to collect evidence of the contributions our STS members have made, and are still making, to the Saskatchewan teaching and learning environment after retirement. The research is sponsored by the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan and the McDowell Foundation as part of STS’s 50th Anniversary celebrations.

This survey should benefit STS members, as it will help to:

· Recognize and celebrate our contributions amongst ourselves, the teaching profession and school systems

· Provide other members with ideas of how they themselves can contribute, and

· Identify areas of further research.

The survey should take you about 10 minutes to complete. To begin the survey, click here: STS Member Contributions Survey.

Your participation is especially important and so, in recognition of the importance of your contribution, 3 separate draws for $100.00 will be made from amongst the surveys received as of the draw date. One draw has been made already; the next two draw dates have been moved to April 19th and April 26th, 2024. Enter before April 19th and your name will be included in both draws! The winners will be announced at the STS AGM in May and the prizes sent out at that time.

All responses will be anonymous. You will only be asked to identify yourself if you indicate you are willing to be interviewed or for the purpose of entering the draw.

The results of this survey and the related research will be presented at the 2024 STS Annual General Meeting on May 8th. The research will also be posted on the McDowell Foundation website.
